My mission, which I have clearly accepted already like a retard: take a two hour movie on how awesome Tony Stark is, and turn it into a three minute, forty second vid about his emo sadpants lonely.

Vid must also set to pansy-ass falsetto indie.

...

Which is not to say, for those Hornblower folk that got past the words "Tony Stark", that I'm ditching HH fandom. I wasn't kidding when I said that Hornblower fandom and I moved in together and that I got rid of my treasured kidney-shaped couch for him. Our little aquarium with Horatio and William Bush is doing OK, and we're still living together in the condo. It's just that with the warm weather, I'm having some long, boozy evenings out with Iron Man.

By analogy, Star Wars is the aggressive outdoor kitty I put food out for and try to cuddle every once in a while, but prolonged exposure makes me want to claw my skin off from hives.

CHALLENGE: set said vid to pansy-ass ROBERT DOWNEY JR. SONG.

I got to the end of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang the other night (and I blame my flist for not previously strapping me down to watch it), and it's so hip and clever and meta and lovely, and then the end credits, there's a cheesy-ass overproduced lite-rock song, male vocalist singing with gusto. I kept waiting for the characters to snark over it in narration and put something else on; alas, it didn't happen.

and then I get to the "songs" part of the credits, and, yup. Written and sung by RDJ. Oh, Robert.

er. well, it depends what you like, I suppose [she says diplomatically]. I mean, it's fine, it's just... not my style. but he even has a whole album, and you can watch clips of him singing on Ally McBeal on youtube. (not that I've recently checked! ha ha!)

I reapeat: oh my God. OH MY GOD.

Am listening to some kind of fluff about Christmas and trees and reindeer, and I can't stop laughing. The Stark Industries of music, this man is not. He sounds like the fluffy version of Rod Stewart or something.

Kay, I am SO glad I'm not the only one. Except I'm cutting it to a crap-pants cam, knowing I'm only setting myself up to do the same when the DVD comes out and then there goes another week of my life.

This helps curb that urge. But only a little while. One more for the road.

(okay, so that was two, oops.)

TONY STARK. MAKING BLACKSMITHING LOOK EVEN HOTTER. WHERE DID YOU LEARN OLD-SCHOOL BLACKSMITHING, TONY? CLEARLY, I MUST WRITE FIC ABOUT THIS.

I've actually got a not-shitty-for-a-cam version. Sure, you can't actually see anything when the sun isn't blazing overhead, and the footage is curiously blue-shifted at points, and once in a while, some bitch up ahead gets up, but uh. Not completely shitty? It's the Dragon25 version, and I can throw it up if you want it.

Oooh! I think that's the version I have too! It isn't all that bad, I'm just scared of compression, 'cause it bit my ass the first time around (ALSO I'VE ONLY DONE, LIKE ONE? EVER? I had delusions of grandeur while coming out of the theater. I blame the delicious slurpee.)

WHERE DID YOU LEARN OLD-SCHOOL BLACKSMITHING, TONY? CLEARLY, I MUST WRITE FIC ABOUT THIS.

CLEARLY. I love that Tony's solution to getting out alive is to build a gigantic suit with flamethrowers, because just building a gigantic gun to shoot your way out would have been...pedantic? Oh, Tones.

Or, you know. A signal beacon that the US would have picked up, followed by some nifty little bomb that would have welded the doors shut until help came. Or, alternatively, body armor for him and the littel buddy. As you put it, oh, Tones.

(Though there's an AU in that -- Tony comes back with his friend from the mountain! I wonder how the story would have been different then.)

Yeah, compression whupped my ass the first two times, so I've just given up and started using EasyXviD. There was a period of fiddling and OH MY GOD WHY IS IT CUTTING OFF THE BOTTOM HALF OF MY PICTURE? But now I can get my vid files under 50MB, which is fantastic, and now, my problem is figuring out WTF to do with the next two minutes of the vid. Two hour movie! You would think that I could figure out how to vid more than 1:40 of it.

popping by to say, I... would probably actually write that fic? my sister dated a blacksmith for like a year, after meeting him in a class he was teaching. and I kind of want to pepper my MIT-alum roommate with questions about gadgetry, and my sister re: blacksmithing, and write some sort of Tony's-final-project-in-college thing.

but for now, okay, seriously, that first pic there hits pretty much every single one of my Things. HOT.

Okay, seriously, I think you should write it. I'm just absolutely, absolutely fascinated by high-tech Tony getting in an old-fashioned blacksmith shop, but I totally lack knowledge about what it's like or how the sensory experience, and you know Tony would be into the sensory experience.

Man.

Is Rome, then, the little cavy that wheeeks and wheeeeks and wheeeeeeks for attention but it satisfied with the littlest bit of cucumber before curling up in your lap? :)

Otherwise, hello! My godmother and I are off to the zoo in search of the new ocean exhibit and RED PANDAS!

RED PANDAS! I actually like them more than the original iteration. A cross between a raccoon and a fox -- what is there not to love?

And ahahha. Rome is more like, say, the smooth, superhot guy that pushes EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY BUTTONS, but alas, I'm not smart or creative enough in the sack for his visits to last very long.

I see Tony Stark in Yakuza white, if that's what you're saying. And Happy -- the bodyguard/driver -- translates directly over. You just gotta figure out who Pepper is.

Female relative of the second in command. Like the anee-san, but not as scary. You know, they use his place to crash after drug deals, and she makes them all tea and good, homestyle cooking and doesn't ask questions if she doesn't want to hear the answer.

Wait, does that mean she'd be a relative of Obediah's? Because Obediah would kind of be the second in command. And the storyline of the manga would clearly be that he tries to bring about a gangland coup.

Mecha get involved.

(I was reading about how a lot of yakuza have yakuza vanity plates. Now that we've had this conversation, I will never look at the STARK4 and STARK5 license plates we see the same way again. Also, the product placement driving of Audi's now makes far m ore sense.)

Hmmm. Okay, that could be really interesting. And put a whole spin on Pepper sticking up for Stark at the end. GANGLAND WARS. Before you know it, Tony Leung will in a movie pretending to be Tony Stark.

(The Audi was so beautiful in that movie that I think I actually moaned out loud.)

It would be awesome. I imagine lots of reflected lights in smoked Maybach windows and long, significant glances through vapor rising from expensive, yet simple and classic, teapots. Tony has never slept with Pepper out of respect for Obediah.

(I HAD NO IDEA AUDIS COULD BE THAT GORGEOUS. Like, the one Stark drives with the engine that's visible in the back? Holy shit. Holy shit! IT IS GORGEOUS.)

YYY.

And really, it all works out with Japanese culture, doesn't it-- the idea of family responsibility in the Starks and Obediah's disloyalities in trying to overthrow family, and Pepper being the subservient woman with hidden steel And Stark's philosophy (do it right, do it once) works SO WELL with gangland assassinations....

Also, OK, I would not say no to a heavily tattooed RDJ-played Tony Stark. I'm just saying. Big, giant-ass Japanese smithing gods down one arm by light of the forge while in making the Iron Man mask? Man.

Granted, OK, Tony Leung-played Stark is unlikely to sport that kind of muscle, but man. I wonder what would be the equivalent of Stark trying to take the company out of weapons development? Some kind of Michael Corleon, Godfather kinda thing?

Also. You know that Richard would have been asked to awork his way up in the organization, but would have turned it down. :>
