This is one of those rulebreakers for me. Usually, I'm not a fan of first time fic, nor am I, as a rule, a fan of AHHH I LIKE COCK WHAT AM I GOING TO DO stuff. As far as I'm concerned, Forester pretty much got pre-Atropos HH/WB right in one when he wrote the Kingston chapters of Lieutenant Hornblower, but man oh man, how can any sane book Hornblower fan resist this fic of![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)

It's sweet and thoughtful and funny and surprising. It's beautifully paced, smoothly executed, and oh, how I love her Bush. I love her Hornblower. This is better, dammit, than those fics that take a cliche and make it work in a new way -- this is the kind of fic that explains why why we fell in love with them in the first place.
