- completing the Qui-Gon saga with Kano
- zipping up music folders for music post
- Calrissian fic for hetgenathon
- fic about how being stretched thin/population decline has affected the Jedi, idea from Imadra.
- expansion of Qui-Gon teenager birthplanet fic
- rewriting Qui-Gon/Anakin and Obi-Wan AU fic
- putting down thoughts about Jedi assignment and politicking to get them -- potential fic from that.
- baby Qui-Gon toddling around and raising hell from neotoma

It would, you know. I think it probably changed Jedi selectivity about the kinds of missions that they'd send their people on, and it probably politicized the entire process immensely. :> It might be possible to speculate that's when the Order really started getting into bed with the Chancellor's office -- that's where the really vital assignments are going to be, in a sense, but yeah.

Oh, I agree, but the Jedi's reactive philosophy didn't really help matters, imho. Then again, proactive can be just as bad. No matter what, my impression from reading some summaries from Lucas is that the Jedi's protection to the galaxy had made it so spoiled, that the Republic was being eaten away from within and the Jedi weren't able to sotp that. They were, after all, mortal.

I'm not familiar with Gibbon, but keep in mind I've been out of college for years because of financial difficulty, so I'm hardly overeducated.

Well, I'm basing what I said off the introduction to the Clone Wars novels that was written by Lucas himself. He basically states that the Republic was corrupt because the Jedi had offered it too much peace and protection. My impression was that Palaptine took advantage of this and totally swung it in his favor acerbated circumstances. Things would have to be really looked at hard to see if the Republic would have survived if the Jedi had and the Sith defeated by RotS. It could go either way. And Anakin, for all his faults, had a point about someone taking charge and getting people to listen in AotC. I believe that could have helped the Republic. Unfortunately, the guy who did that was UNREDEEMABLY EVIL. XD

I should dig that intro up and type it into LJ for others' reading perusal, to see if maybe I'm reading it wrong or something.

That comment was too wanky and pointless to live. It suffices to say that I'm not sure that the Republic would have fallen if Anakin hadn't gone ebil. Mace was kickin' Palpatine's ass pretty hardcore for a while, and who knows how much longer the Empire would have held together if the Sith hadn't been around to stir the drink? Sure, the Jedi might have ended up being kind of awful semi-dictators, but you wouldn't have had the Death Star, and you probably would have kept the semblance of parliamentary government.

I cannot believe that I spent that much time wanking about some dude's theory of Roman history and then spelled his name wrong. CHRIST. SHOOT ME NOW.

Oh, I don't think it would automatically have fallen, I just think there was something wrong with it beyond Palpatine, and Palpatine just took advantage of it.
