I watched the entirety of the Battlestar Galactica miniseries and first season yesterday. Any show that devotes approximately a fifth of its first season to logistical problems like water and fuel? EARNS MY LOVE. IMMEDIATELY.

1.

In Kara's head, Lee even knows her favorite sexual position -- underneath, with her legs up. It's a little embarrassing for a bad old veteran who can fight, fly, shoot, drink, play cards, cuss, and fuck better than anybody in the Fleet, but she likes missionary when she likes the guy enough to get off from kissing him while he's inside her.

Moreover, she imagines that this is the position that Lee prefers.

2.

Zak should have been a lawyer. He would have been a good lawyer, confident and articulate and devoted to his work. The pressure of his family would still have been with him, but it would not stand in in his mind so vividly. A grandfather is easier to conquer than a father with more charisma than every politician on the planet put together, than a brother whose spine, at puberty, reorganized itself into a configuration that encouraged attention posture.

He would have died only three years later than he did, and the sudden, double loss of both him and his mother would have crippled Lee and his father.

Nevertheless, Zak should have been a lawyer.

3.

It is a mistake to think that relations between Lee and his father would have been better if Zak hadn't died -- they would have found something else to fight over. Anne, for example, or the effect of the Adama name on Lee's career no matter how far he tried to build his career away from the old man. He was a Viper pilot, after all, and the inescapable nature of his name inside the Fleet was part of what made him think about bartending.

Lee looked like his mother. He tried to go into the reserve, and they would have fought. They were proud men, and there would have been a rift.

I have only watched two or three episodes of this show because it depresses the hell out of me whenever I try, but these are well written. *thumbs up*

On the other hand, you said you think I should be a lawyer one time too. I do not trust you.

You're bright and hardworking and incredibly articulate. And you're precise with your words, too. :>

There's some interesting stuff in the first season extras and online about how Ron Moore deliberately tried to make it grittier and darker than Star Trek. I can totally see all these echoes of DS9 and the good stuff of Voyager in it. <3

I think DS9 is as gritty and dark as I want to go. I don't want the canon to be as dark as my stories. D:

I think the setup for Voyager was effing fantastic. Ship, in the far reaches of space! Headed by lady captain with voice like gravel! The premise was kind of awesome, I think, and when Moore dropped out, I swear that I could TASTE how badly things went south.

The guy who wrote "The Visitor" is coming onboard the writing staff for Season 3. ^__________________________________^ bring the pain, bitches.

also, hi.

Baby, you watch Stargate Atlantis. I think that pretty much conclusively ends any possible argument about "finding good things in otherwise irredeemably shitty TV shows."

Lovely. I'm glad you like it, it's not my favourite show but it is much with the awesome.
