- editorial choice on Bush FST song
- Bush sheerness fic (dream, cozy office/HH rootless, wedding invite to shindig w/Barbara where Bush isn't going to be the Best Man, the lookout over the ocean with the soil-y patch further backhwere you could get water, and them fucking in the shed. Scars are like waves -- in meaning (on the surface, showing turbulence underneath, the signs of what has passed) and in shape, particularly if they're like Bush's and have been stitched up so there's a bit of a ridge around them) How they still gleam silver even nwo that Bush has been away from the sea for so long.)
- diseasefic. (list of things that've happened to Bush. Chron. Start with blacksmith. Old burns. Typhus --
- framework for exploration: four major places in WB's life that we dn't get much of. The days before Renown (Chichester, Superb, Conquereor), the days when Meadows or whatever is captain fo the Hotspur through to the paying off of Hotspur through ship fo the Line, the days at Sheerness, the days between the Baltic and Le Havre. Have written plenty about SHeernes, some about the last and the first. None about the second. Think more about that.
- Edrington, Edrington, Edrington. Why do I have to learn so cussedly much to write you?

Date: 2006-03-15 10:43 pm (UTC)FST hurrah.
*babbles*
Date: 2006-03-16 06:48 am (UTC)The whole thing is fascinating, actually, particularly what you point out about how they have military service in common -- it's the notion, I think, of how men who are so different can end up in the same place.
I may have mentioned this to you before, but there's a fic I badly want to write about Pellew having a little shindig in the period of Lord Hornblower in between when HH comes back from France and before he leave again. There's peace, so people are coming home, and Pellew invites a bunch of the military officers that he knows down to Exmouth or whatever for a week.
And I can have this image of Hornblower and Edrington bumping into each other again in what looks like the final peace of their age and playing whist
and having really angsty, terrible, 'what are we going to do with our lives now, oh, that's right, not talk about things' sex. Them playing against whist each other when the last time they were this cloe, it was that slowwww crazy march to the sea. :>Re: *babbles*

I love that phrasing. And it makes me flail, the thought of those days being nearly gone, and thse men who make their military service their whole life -- a ship is a world unto itself -- and then have to go back and live in this other 'normal' world. It's that journey of the hero, isn't it: they go away and are irrevocably changed and when they come back they don't quite fit. And you can imagine, too, the way the sea gets in their blood and the yearning a lifelong sailor would have not just to be at sea, but to be back in that structure of Naval missions and the discipline of the ship and everything they know.
Also, Edrington needs to be topped.
you're alllll I seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Date: 2006-03-18 03:42 pm (UTC)And. Randomly, just because I know you'll share my pain. When I woke up this morning, I was determined to be productive and just thought to myself, :D I'll just have a little fun before I get to work :D What's quick and guaranteed to amuse? :D I know! The Sugababes video.
An hour and a half later, and I'm STILL SITTING HERE, COMPLETELY HYPNOTIZED.
toooo lost *___*
Date: 2006-03-18 10:18 pm (UTC)get outread more. Generally I like to see different stuff in fic, but I just have this image of him topping from the bottom, with that 'you should address me as My Lord' expression.Ahahaa! :> I'm laughing at your pain because I know it so well. I still have to laugh at the bit where they simultaneously lower their pistols and it looks so perfectly music-video of them. Next there will be interpretive dance! And you know, it really made me rethink my stance on what music to put to vids and such. AND! The bit where Bush starts to bellow out some orders, god, the way he just uses his whole body and enunciates stuff. <333
*resists urge to queue it up again*
Date: 2006-03-19 05:38 am (UTC)It's like the mating dance of the whooping crane or something thing. :> *is whooping herself with laughter* Two aerial turns, one bellow at the gun deck, a co-ordinated lowering of the pistols, and then some discreet humping behind a sand dune to produce a pair of large, flecked eggs in two weeks.
Seriously, though. That vid contains potent black voodoo. I don't know if you've ever read the Xanth books by Piers Anthony, but there're these magical gourds? That will hypnotize you if you're misfortunate to look at them at the wrong place? I feel that way about the vid. *____*
(How did it make you rethink your stance on what music to put to vids?)
And. PS. If you're looking for Edrington topping-from-the-bottom -- have you read the All the King's Men series. It's, like, all Edrington topping-from-thebottom, and Nature and Degree is even Edrington/Bush. O.o I don't know if I always agree with the characterizations, but there's definite magical attention-sucking gourd qualities about some of them.
