Feb. 17th, 2006 04:25 pmDear Hodder Headline Audiobooks:
If you take a cat, cut its ears off, use acid to burn off the legs, pluck all the fur off of it, graft cow organs onto it, all the while using evil technology to keep it alive despite the torture, and then use brainwashing electrodes to brainwash it into thinking that it's a duck that likes bread crusts and swimming, is it still a cat?
Or, intead, has it become some TERRIBLE, AWFUL HYBRID THING THAT SHOULD BE PUT OUT OF ITS MISERY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE?
If your anwer "no" to the first question and anything resembling "yes" to the second, perhaps you should re-consider your version of Lieutenant Hornblower, stripped as it is of the Hornblower-Bush dynamic and every thing that makes it the lively, lovely book it is. Even Ioan Gruffudd and the Cutest Accent Ever won't do it for me if the script excludes 98.9% of Bush's characterization and features, instead, shitty atmospheric music and acting directions like, "Ioan, squeak like they have your balls in a clamp!" or "Narrator! For Captain Sawyer's voice, imitate Michael Jackson trying to talk sexy! It'll be really effective, and your audience will be frightened and not, you know, so revolted that they're tempted to throw the cassette player across the room!"
No love,
(admittedly, I only listened to the first fifteen minutes or so, and I know this is a really extreme reaction, but I'd really been looking forward to hearing Gruffudd talk about Bush and Hornblower locking eyes for the first time, etc, etc. I'll give listening another shot when I'm not quite so impatient and have lowered expectations.
And no, the original text up there didn't make sense. FEATHERED CATS! PUT IT DOWN TO TOTAL RAGE.)
...
So. Because it's the weekend. Tell me a scene -- canon, EU, fanfiction, whatever -- from a fandom that we share, and I'll upload the song that they should play in the background. For example, I'll tell you the song in my head that corresponds to the first time that Obi-Wan Kenobi sees the sun rise on Tattooine after he's exiled there or what is so totally the porno theme song for when Bush and Hornblower go off on their two days debauch in Kingston or even, you know. A scene from something you've written. :D
Alternatively, leave a comment, and I'll just send you a song that, for some reason, I associate with you or think that you should hear.

*throws tapes out the window*
And you know I want desperately to hear the porno theme for the Kingston 'shaken and limp' debauch. XD
am watching sea of souls and about to DIE FROM HOW HOT MCGANN IS

fuck 'em all day, fuck 'em all night.
Artist and song info in the ID3 tag. It's a little tongue in cheek, but it ties into how I think Bush has a very limited use for women in his life. They're either relatives, to be supported, or uh. You know.
And how the hell can you get "shaken and limp" from gambling? No, I remain firmly convinced that Bush fucked his way from one end of the officer's leisure section of Kingston to the other, and then, when he was too bleary to stand, got screwed on his knees by a newly minted Commander. :D

You can just imagine that the doot-doot-doot-doot bit at the end is Horry running around desperately trying to find a place below deck where it looks like he can vomit. XD Each clap is a staggery step he takes!
And I love this song way too much anyways.

I want to know what song goes with... Anakin and obi-Wan meeting again in the afterlife. Be nice. ;)

I know you don't like Anakin, but that scene gets to me a lot and this song is so perfect for it.

Date: 2006-02-18 03:09 pm (UTC)Did I ever tell you, by the way, that I have the half-beginnings of an entire Obi-Wan/Anakin soundtrack on my HD? I'd been trying to figure them out, and one of the big way sthat I figure shit out liek that is listening to a given song and figuring out the ways in which the pairing is both like and unlike the song. :>
Anyways: one song from the FST because this song is utterly A/O to me and the one you actually asked for. I suspect the latter is a bit less cheery than you want. XD

Date: 2006-02-18 07:06 pm (UTC)And hah. My musical taste bulletproof? You are being entirely too kind. Let's see if you still think that after hearing these:
AACP and the the last days in London (If it sounds familiar, it's a track from the Constant Gardener OST, which adgjdklfj.)
Attie: the narrow margin between the haves and the have-nots.
Also: Attie and Pansy during the trip out to South America and while they're trying to get set up in life.
it's such a pity :( :( :( It's A/P in their angsty teenage stage or something. Shut up, I'm a plebe. There's one other decent song on the album, but the rest of it sucks so hard. I always KNEW that Harvard was bad for people. XD

And if I ever make a Sharpe vid, I'd like to make it to this song.
For some reason, that last song reminds me a bit of you, too. <3
