I just got out of the surprisingly good and beautifully-shot movie, and am starting in on the books for a second try because I didn't get very far the first time, but goddamn I'd really, really stupidly love some fic about movie!Esca. The rush of pride reaches Esca even through the exhaustion, and as he goes towards the east side -- Esca looking over his shoulder and seeing his mother go down to her knees in the mud, his father drawing his knife.
