Get Your Gun, I'm Done by [livejournal.com profile] rocknload
Post-movie and the aftermath. And. Holy shit, guys. Holy shit. I have no idea how to even talk about this coherently without collapsing into a pile of unholy glee. Because, you know, I've been whining bitterly on all fandom fronts about how the volume of good Iron Man fanfiction has been disgustingly low these days, with [livejournal.com profile] amonitrate's Sentinel series being the only regular thing around.

No more, guys. [livejournal.com profile] rocknload blew thew goddamn door off the hinges. Post-movie Tony Stark, Pepper Potts, Jim Rhodes. Jarvis. Bruce Banner. Betsy Ross. Thunderbolt Ross. Nick Fury. STEEEEEEEEEEVE. And more Tony Stark, in a way where it's hard to quote just one piece because the way [livejournal.com profile] rocknload writes, everything just gets developed and fleshed out and made so rich and resonant and, yet, strikingly spare. This has become one of my new go-to fics when I'm feeling troubled about my own writing and need something to clean me up and help me get focused. She is just that good at taking perfectly written bits of ouch and layering them into. Like. I don't know.

A freight train of monumental pain.

A freight train of phenomenally written monumental pain. A freight train so well-written that you wish you'd written it yourself, except you know that it wouldn't be half as good, and that would be a goddamn shame because.
In September, Tony’s in his kitchen, which he never uses, and he’s washing down a pepperoni and sausage pizza with brandy.
WHY ARE YOU STILL READING THIS ENTRY? GOOOOOOOOOO.

I am not kidding about how I want to hang up my spurs or something. Like, first with the Sam/Tony, and now with this media-fic that I'm trying to poke around in? IT WILL NEVER BE THIS GOOD. The parallelism between the opening and the closing scene. The shifting treatment of women. JARVIS. The terracotta statues because you know where the terracotta statues went? THAT'S RIGHT. TOMBS. SUBSTITUTES FOR REAL HUMANS. AND.

The grainy picture of the pretty redhead killed me dead.
