This will no doubt be all over your f-list in recs by tonight, and I can't think of anybody in Iron Man fandom who's slash-friendly, let alone a slasher, who won't see this without my inflation-valued three cents, but oh my God, oh my god, oh my god. I need to rec this for my own sanity or something because it's a little early in the fandom life cycle to start handing out ne plus ultra designations, but man, it's hard to imagine right now any found-in-the-desert through press-conference Tony/Jim that could top this.

Perfect characterization, beyond-perfect dialogue, unflinching working-out from first premises, gorgeously clear, simple writing that executes, well. You know. Perfectly. It's totally controlled. I mean, I'm even fine with ellipses. Ellipses! And thanks to a link from [livejournal.com profile] dafnapl I woke up and read it at 7:50 AM while still being like WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY GLASSES I CANNOT LOOK AWAY FROM THE SCREEN LONG ENOUGH TO FIND MY FUCKING GLASSES.

but oh my God, oh my god, oh my god

Amen!

And thank you again for the rec. Because this was the best way to start the day.

Holy crow, that's some good stuff. WOW. I've read it twice now and I think I need to wear down the HOLY SHIT reaction in my head before I can leave coherent feedback. Because HOLY SHIT. Pitch-fucking-perfect and such a grasp of how the characters work. HOLY SHIT.

ooooh, that's just excellent, that is. lines that seem simple and then you stare for a minute and realize there are whole worlds of perfect character deconstruction hiding behind them. thanks for the rec.

Exactly. The simplicity of the writing is what sealed my fangirling. The ideas are really awesome, but her prose! IT'S SO SIMPLE. AND YET SO POTENT because of how good she is at arranging things and getting Rhodey's diction andjust selling us with perfect, perfect execution of her characterization.

God. My fangirl of her writing may, at this point, be even greater than my fangirling of the ideas.

I...I want to leave feedback RIGHT THE EFF NOW but I'm at work and behind as it is but OH. I ECHO YOUR SENTIMENT.

Her Rhodes voice kills me, and her brittle, reeling Tony makes my heart break so, so hard. Everything there just rings so true it KILLS. This is the Rhodey that backs away from him in the hanger, that doesn't want to play by Tony's rules anymore, doesn't want Tony to depend on him because it's not healthy for either of them and OH. MY HEART.

I can't even deal with it. How the fuck does anybody write Tony-and-Jim fic for that interval now? Or even Tony-and-Jim fic, period.

She covers it all. Everything. The twenty-two year old puppy look thing? Kills me dead. The salty MRE lasagna? Kills me dead. Supermodels and four tickets to the Super Bowl so that you don't have to say that you're sorry? Kills me dead. Jim spending three months coming up with what to say to Tony? Kills me dead. Jim caring that Tony hates predictable people? Kills me dead. Rhodey's desperate need to believe that Tony will be OK? Kills me dead. Rhodey's response to Tony, all wet hair and naked? DEAD. CHRIST ALMIGHTY. HOW CAN ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET BE SO FULL OF WIN?

GODDDDDDDDDD. All I can think of to write now is fic about all those dead end trails they ran down? But God. It's hard to think of fic when you're as DEAD as I am.

I keep reading it again and moving between sheer hatred for raising the bar so high I want to delete my entire protofic file, and pure utter joy at finally getting some CRAZY AWESOMESAUCE Rhodey voice going on.

God. Damn. Her.

Yeah. My first, atavistic reaction it this morning was. FUCK. FUCK. FUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCK. FUCK. FUCK.

Fic about Tony at MIT is still safe though, isn't it? Isn't it? God, please tell me it is. What do you think [livejournal.com profile] livia_penn will never write?

Something that doesn't suck! HEY-OH.

No, but seriously folks: Fandom, stop being so awesome.

Fic about Tony at MIT is still safe though, isn't it? I

Except for that one where Tony is a little snot and Rhodey is completely unamused and FANDOM. STOP BEING SO AWESOME.

(I think the Tony-Rhodey as roommates playing D&D and designing robot suits while high is still free.)

(hint.)

Hint. I think you should write it.

All I've got is a couple sentences in my head about how, when Tony Stark went to MIT, Whitney Houston had two songs in the Top Ten of Billboard and he lived his first semester in the house of a professor who'd been a grad student under a Columbia prof who let Tony fuck around in his robot lab. And that a chauffeur showed up on holidays to drive Tony down to his parent's place on Long Island (read: THE HAMPTONS.)

Sigh.

Jesus Christ, me too. I am so goddamn tired right now that this has made me utterly weak with hero-worship. I mean... dude, we have to measure up to THAT? OH, BALLS. ::weeps::

NO, IT'S THERE. HOLY CHRIST.

(No, but seriously. I want Pepper/Christine Everhart like you would not believe. And walked out of the movie theater badly wanting Rhodey/Tony. Nothing has quite hit the spot until now, but homgggg.)

I always say I'm totally not in this fandom! and then I discover later that I am. :> I feel like I'm kind of fandomless at the moment though.

Anyway, hey, if it makes you post lots then I'm all for it.

I should also say: in Iron Man, Tony Stark has not one, but two devoted employees. And a father figure who stabs him in the back.

And ahah. I HEAR YOU ARE BETA-READING AN EPIC SGA FANFIC.

Damn you and your tempting ways. I can't resist devoted characters.

HAHA, YES, it is true. I have love. Though my measure of being in a fandom is pretty much writing for it, and lately I've got nothing.

RHODEEEEEEY. That fic is just so him. As though we were seeing the bits they'd left on the cutting-room floor from his POV.
