I love that you put Hornblower in Slytherin! (I can see this was not met with universal favour at the time, but it seems so right, even if we assume he didn't push Sawyer down the stairs...) It works so well and I love that Slughorn thinks he's amazing (though slow going to not notice him until his fourth year) and the link, then, of Slughorn->Slughorn likes candied pineapple->pineapple :D So, I like that, and I really like that you chose to put it in this time period - which still feels like the past (and therefore a bit more like the Napoleonic era) because it's the past for Harry.
And I love that Hornblower saves Bush's life and that Bush gets to do so many cool things over the course of a short fic. (And also that Barbera is related to Dumbledore. For some reason I think that is great).
