It's so difficult, man. The entire end of LtH is just fraught with gayness, and what really boggles me is that in the entirety of the series, we never, ever, ever see Hornblower buying presents for other people. Ever. He doesn't bring a present back to Maria after umptyzillion years; he doesn't have anything tchochkes for Barbara stored away in his personal seachest.
But in the course of, like, thirty pages, he buys Bush an entire PITCHER OF DRINKS, a fruit basket, and dinner. It's amazing. :D
