In one sense, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are so perfect for each other as master and apprentice. Obi-Wan's orthodoxy keeps Qui-Gon from going completely off into the far black, and Qui-Gon's heterodoxy keeps Obi-Wan from calcifying at a tender age.
IN ANOTHER, THOUGH? THEY ARE SO DEEPLY UNSUITED TO EACH OTHER. Qui-Gon's emotional distance! Obi-Wan's ability to rationalize and habit of obedience! It is angst of a crazy, crazy, fundamentally rooted kind, and throw in the looming tragedy of the prequel?
It's like crack COCAINE for me, man. I love Q/O so passionately and desperately, and I'm glad some of it came through for you. I swear to God that I could write endless fic about them arguing over how to change a light bulb. Or cooking dinner. Or browsing through a bazaar on an alien planet.
