God. I don't think it'd have to be AU. The Bush-Hammond interaction is so charged in canon that it's not a reach. At all. The thought of Bush growling those infamous lines at Hammond and sending Hammond down to kiss the gunner's daughter after, you know. That afternoon in Portsmouth? Where he jerked Hammond off and then fucked him on a wide inn bed with the curtains drawn up and all of Hammond's clothes on the floor outside and Bush kissing that pretty, pretty hair the whole time?

I think this is why that Bush/Hammond fic you wrote was so effing hot. I mean, yes, there's the whole Hammond/Bush dynamic, which is ludicrously filthy in and of itself. On top of that, though, there's the notion of how much Bush would like to have Hornblower on his knees in front of him, how much Bush would like to be able to stroke Hornblower's hair and call him pretty. And how rigidly he has to keep that under wraps normally.
