It never occured to me that he would have needed a new chest after the Sutherland but, OF COURSE. And the watch. I love it and I'm happy that he had such a luxurious shiney thing.
The little bits and pieces are just so grand. The book that HH buys him & Bush being kind, the candlesticks, the mention of single stockings and single shoes.
And I'm struck that Bush carried his material life around with him in a box. All his wordly possessions. And HH realizing that what was in the box didn't make up the sum of what was Bush. Maybe a lesson for him, because he has all sorts of shiney at Smallbridge, including the shiney upper class wife, and none of it ever seems to be enough.
