Hornblower has such an association between Bush and rest, man. I'm kind of obsessed with tracking down all the instances where there's a convergence of Bush, Hornblower and sleep issues -- like the Commodore Hornblower peeping scene, the Bush/easy sleep - Hornblower/insomnia connection, and oh, the Loire bank scene. The image of Hornblower lying awake under that little wee tent, hearing the birds and morning river, and then going delirious with joy when he realizes that's Bush's arm around him? Trying to keep very still so that Bush will go on sleeping and the moment can last? Man.

All of this is to say that I refuse to believe that Hornblower left Bush that night aboard the Renown until Bush really and truly was asleep in his cot.

And Bush deserves some happiness in his life that isn't connected with the saucy wooden girls, dammit. Blasphemous as it is, he ought to have more than that. :/
