Man. The passage idea is tempting just because of the long, sustained periods of time that they'd get to spend with each other. And Archie would get long, extended periods of watching Hornblower's rampant crazy. The three of them at dinner together, some late night? *racks brains for way to justify this scenario, still thinks that you hould write it because you have such a grasp of Archie*
I mean, I'm sitting here thinking, "Gee, it'd be kind of nifty if Archie and Bush bond over music! :D" Because enjoying Shakespeare and being able to sing, "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow" are totally the same thing!
black_hound has this theory that Forester had this whole thing with aligning Bush with the Temeraire. She's figured out that the name means "rash, reckless," and we've been talking about how that aligns pretty well with Bush. Bush served on her during Trafalgar, and Bush's death at Caudebec is kind of the happy-ending version of what should have happened to the ship. And yeah. You know how Bush likes his girls pretty and saucy?
APPARENTLY, THE TEMERAIRE'S NICKNAME IN THE SERVICE WAS THE "SAUCY TEMERAIRE" OR JUST "THE SAUCY" STRAIGHT-UP.
djghdf ewr archie! getting passage!
