Undertow -- I do like it a whole bunch. There is little enough bookverse fic in this fandom, for one thing. I only know of 2 people who are writing exclusively from the books. And I like the structure and the style of it all. Some of the language I just *heart*.
It drives into the heart of these characters, I think, with all the loneliness and restraint and enforced distance their situation demanded. It reminded me of the moment in Flying Colours where HH takes Bush's hand and it's a really big deal. And I think the fact that their sexual encounters in this fic are so widely spaced and so brief and evenutally just so over is a sobering reflection of the type of life they lived.
