As for the Force-lifting deal, it's a little more canon, since what lay people call a Jedi mind trick, I read the Jedi call it "Force influence", though this might be an EU thing. It's a solid thing to me, though. Usually, I work around describing as anything other thn "lifting things with the Force" or finding some nifty way to describe it, because that's how the Jedi seemed to go on about it.
