Have finished books one through five of Novik's Temeraire series in the past twenty-four hours or so and spent, like, at least 50 pages of book five in a solid vale of misty-eyed tears. Oh my God. Why did I hold out on this series for so long? Why? Why? I cannot deal, except to say that I have spent an inordinate amount of time in the past day thinking about

(1) the Nonsuch as a Regal Copper past her prime, and
(2) Yinsen as a dragon, Howard Stark and his old mount, Arcturium, Tony Stark and how he never had much interest in the family business, and Jim Rhodes's little blue-tinted Greyling nicknamed Runt.

Also, because I cannot lie and because of

dafnap, who also has responsibility for (2), dragon movie reviews. As she pointed out, you just imagine Temeraire's horror at the burning-your-cash scene in Dark Knight. "But Laurence, think of the capital."
