I long ago gave up keeping up with your prodigious output, and still shy away from the no-doubt-excellently-written stories with mounds of "THIS FIC IS TOTALLY MESSED GUYS" warnings, but I'm glad I let this one slip its way past my probably-unwarranted defenses. It feels like such an organic evolution of your earliest Clone-fics, only there's something more about Tony's self-loathing. especially with that gut-punching last line, man. My heart just kept breaking for poor Clony.
but that's why you don't usually Do happy endings - cause as you take your AUs and ideas out to their logical conclusions, there wouldn't be a happy ending. it all feels so inevitable and so certain. And I'm sure this one will add to the growing list of Fics Of Yours that linger on evocatively in my brain long after I click onto something else.
uh, that is all to say, this is excellent, thanks for sharing. :-D
