shoiryu pointed me to this version of the song back in the day for Papa Winchester, but ever since that DOOMTHREAD-PRIME conversation about how post-movie Tony still sees the world as black and white, with-me-or-against-me in essentially the same way as he did at the beginning of the movie, though with the lines of good and bad redrawn a bit, this has been obsessively in my head as the song for post-Afghanistan Tony.

So yeah, a vid about Tony Stark's little proto-soul and, uh, not much more nuanced worldview. More than any of the other vids, it baaaadly needs recutting once the DVD is out, but OMG IT IS DONE NOW IT IS DONE.

Okay, one, I love that version of the song so much, his VOICE, yeah.

Two, this makes me want to write EVEN MORE STORIES because YES I can even still see that Tony now, oh so much now, in comics-world, I can see movie!Tony clinging to that mindset even as a sinking man, it killing him all the more knowing the world is full of villains and if he doesn't do his duty and take them out, then who will? God, he's so RIGHTEOUS in his mind, utterly, naively righteous. Dangerously.

I hate you. Okay, I hate for having my friendslist be my homepage on my laptop and getting me into this mess in the first place, but I mostly hate you for producing this in the midst of the craziness of last night and OH. TONY, thinking your big shiny suit is going to fix things, and stopping Obie is going to abolish you of your sins; because being blithely ignorant of what your company does, doesn't make you innocent, and you're just figuring that out now, aren't you?

I love the progression in this, watching him build the suit throughout the vid, and then the end, when he's managed to make something that might make him be a little less human, a little more than what he was before, thinking he can actually change things. Gah. Gah.

Just. Gah. What everybody else said. Except that I have to add: OMG at the timing you've got on that slow driving beat is phenomenal, with the foot stomp and the knee extension and the hammer strikes and Rhodey's little smile and the FLASH BULBS and with Obadiah's hand clapping on Tony's back and at the last with the suit's eyes lighting up. And of course with the clips, in time, too. Just exquisite.

Also, HAHAHA, I sat up and made a noise in the middle of this because I had no idea that Pepper appeared in the shot where Obadiah and Tony are walking into the Stark Industry lobby. My copy doesn't show her at all because that is just how bad it sucks. GOD DAMMIT.

Oh, that's terrific, it's got the dark underside to Tony's crusade (that it could become a crusade) as well as the heroism, and great choice of song.

And, yes, that's Tony's view -- himself as the Hand of God.

And it would *still* make a great Papa Winchester vid, if you ever get the urge. Him and Tony are men convinced of their own righteousness.

So: DEAR GOD YES.

First, this song is kind of one of the most fabulous Johnny Cash songs ever and your editing is just GUHAMAZING. Not only in the timing right there all the time but your choice of clips is kind of completely fabulous. I've seen some hella good vids, but the ones you've been putting out these past couple of days have the quality of reading like a book with the circular way you swing out of a sequence and then wind back.

But also: YESSS. The 'heads or tails' world view, with-me-or-against-me (Us? America?) and the level of 'There's only the next mission' obsession. And Tony, reinventing and rebuilding over and over - Ouroboros - to fit, to be the better man even if that definition of better is flying higher or longer or shooting the most missiles from his arm.
