The 5 Things Meme.

You know the drill.

Do me a favor and ask for five things. My fandoms are: Star Wars, Hornblower, RPF for Paul McGann and/or other Hornblower actors, Supernatural, West Wing, Venture Brothers, Boondock Saints and really, anything that you might desire to see done in a halfassed way. If anybody wants it, I'll even write Battlestar Galactica, Nip/Tuck, and Harry Potter.

Be greedy and ask for lots. I'm in a rut these days, and writing these short little things will help me pare down my blather tendencies. :D

5 things Lucius Vorenus is proud of. BEFORE THE EPISODES OF PAIN.

1. The first time he killed an enemy. He was sixteen, and it had been clean, through the throat in one move, with strength that he did not think he had. He did not hesitate; he did not think.

2. That he said no to Cleopatra. In a way, he is ashamed of the incident -- it took him a long time. He came close, terribly close, to shaming himself as a Roman man, but in the end, when he thinks about it, he is proud.

3. That he did not choose to expose either of his girls. Some men might have; two daughters were two dowries, two weights. They even suggested something shameful about a man's ability to select a wife who would bear male children, and even with the distributions from Caesar, money had been close in those first days.

He looks at them now, and sees what fine, handsome girls they are. Respectful. Proper. There is a lot of their mother in them.

4. The 13th. As though this needs explanation.

5. The mornings when he wakes up at home. The girls are sleeping in the rooms beyond; the tradesmen are beginning to move about in the courtyard. Bread is being delivered, and Niobe is down in the courtyard, arguing over the bill. Pullo is still asleep, Vorenus can guess, because Niobe has just ordered one of the slaves to roll Pullo somewhere else so that his snoring isn't quite so loud and won't interfere with her haggling.

It makes him feel like a citizen. It makes him think that he can live in peace.
