Bush had not been an imaginative man, but Hornblower was, and in the days after Bush's death, dreams plagued him.

Untitled, Hornblower.
February
Hornblower got his memorial at Caudebec -- he paid for it out of his own pocket, spent months having an agent survey, inspect, and then negotiated the sale of the land, and there were complications because he was not a French citizen but wanted to purchase land that technically belonged to the state, and then, when the mayor found out that Hornblower intended to raise a memorial to the British dead but not the French dead, there was another round of negotiation, at the end of which Horatio agreed to make contributions to certain French orphanages.

September
One of the peculiarities of Naval service is that two men might serve together for over a decade, become the closest of friends, fonder of each other than any other man on earth, and yet, remain vastly ignorant of each other's personal details: for years on end, men lived in closer quarters with each other than they lived with their wives when ashore, but conditions aboard a ship of the line did not encourage intimate conversation.

Man I love your writing ... especially Semper. Images from that one come back to me from it even when it's been weeks since I've read it ... like the rain and them asleep on the floor, or the visceral imagery from his dreams.

Of course, I love it all, though ... I'd never read you're Untitled bits before ("It was more complicated finding a substitute for Hornblower than Bush thought it would be"). Brilliant.

Ahah. the Untitled bits were me trying to get somebody some use out of things that were driving me berserk. The Bush thing makes me a little embarrassed because ahhhhh, the cliche of Bush finding a replacement for Hornblower, but yay for it working :D

I curse the academic semester system at leat three times a week, by the way, for keeping you from writing more fanfiction. Or, you know. Posting that GUAB fic.

I know. I'm on it. I just have this bj scene that I don't think fits. I might take it out and have it as a PWP.
