i totally read you on the driving ambition thing.

i guess i put him in ravenclaw because of his cerebral qualities. ravenclaw's are the braniacs (although hermione is the odd man out). i supose you could use hermione for the case of putting hornblower in slytherin, that brains can be outweighed by over driving personality traits. i guess i'm sort of jaded against slytherins because rowling can sometimes take a sledgeahmmer to good vs. evil. the good guys have shades of grey and come from all houses, but bad guys always come from slytherin.

maybe i'm not thinking about hornblower critically enough to put him in slytherin. i dunno, i just have this feeling that his over-cerebral nature is what pushes his insane ambition. and while i think his ambition is closely tied with period social structures, i guess it could translate to the 1940s.

i guess i need to convince myself that not all slytherins are bad.
*thinks really hard* not all slytherins are bad, not all slytherins are bad...
still pulling for ravenclaw though :-)
