Re: *____*

The way Bush looks at him at the Long Rooms. How admiring Hammond is of Hornblower, how he's educated like Hornblower, vulnerable like Hornblower (as Bush is able to see). Oh man.

I love your brain. I really, really, really do. OMG. OMG. How much do I want Hammond to have been out buying books when him and Bush hook up? HOW MUCH DO I WANT A BIG PILE OF BOOKS TO BE ON THE FLOOR?

And man. Oh man. THe notion that Bush sees how vulnerable Hammond is, how that's part of what attracts him to Hammond during that night in the Long Rooms and why he ends up being as (kinda) sweet as he is that afternoon? And that same vulnerability being why he's so harsh on Hammond once they're on the Hotspur? Goddamn.

My brain is pretty much smoldering, too, from imagining Bush during that evening at the Long Room. Because you know that he totally wasn't counting the cards or keeping track of the math -- he was following the game by reading people's expressions. You know that he watched Hammond watch Hornblower. Drink champagne. Listen to the sounds of the high-stakes game next door. Watch Hornblower hold his cards. Watch Hammond bite his lip and look at Hornblower and flush a little. Wonder whether Hornblower had any idea that he was being watched like that.

I wonder whether Bush would feel guilty for having had sex with one of his middies.
