And yeah. I had a serious grudge match against Conard for writing Heart of Darkness, which was the bane of my 17 year old high school existence. Hello, let's club people over the head with my brilliant imagery! Let's club them somre more! They're not bleeding hard enough, by Jove, so let's lay in with fresh arms! And when that was over, I tried to read "Lord Jim" because I knew that Conrad was Great Literature and I admired bits of HoD but ugggggggggggggh.
This, though, was pretty damn good. It wanders into floridness at the end, and maybe it's just me <33333 for Hornblower right now that's keeping me from rational analysis, but there's lovely, heartfelt stuff in there about what sailing ships are like.
