It's a revelation, right? I had the same idea, too, probably because the closest thing to meatballs that my family made were the fillings on wontons, and my mother would be scandalized and insulted if you suggested that her wonton fillings might include anything besides meat and vegetables and mushrooms and seasoning.

Bonus tip that you might already know: for extra juicy, extra fancy, meatballs, do a variant of the Chinese xiao long bao by blooming gelatin in a bowl of stock, allowing it to set, and then put the mashed up stock gelatin into the meatball mix.
