RAMBLE MODE: ON.

Longest reply ever to a two paragraph comment. My excuse is that I . . . just got done work?

I'm a pedantic English major, who will go back and edit typos in her own personal LJ posts when she notices them,

Hee. Yeah, this may be a matter of professional training. I'm a philosophy major, where the general rule is INCOMPREHENSIBILITY? NO PROBLEM WE WORSHIP GERMAN PHILOSOPHERS WHO TRY TO PRETEND VERBS DON'T EXIST. Which is to say that yeah, the details don't count for very much. XD

I got the sense from the meta I saw on my flist that some people were freaking out about anyone saying *anything* negative about a fic

Definitely not one of those people here. In fact, I think I'd be more comfortable with a "the flow of your story is borked here, here, and here, and I think you totally effed the structure of the big scene" comment than something about typos, especially if the commenter is somebody that I know and have had interaction with. (Not that you were wondering but you now fall into that category since we've officially exchanged two (2) rounds of comments.) That's the stuff that really matters to me.

And yeah, oddly, I think I'm more inclined to edit typos out of personal posts than I am out of fanfic. Fanfic, bah, people will get over it and continue reading, or they won't. Which is fine by me. But personal posts. Yeah. I care a little more.

Which is to say, in summation, that I know I'm an odd bag of twitches and neuroses. XD

so I think partly I was reacting out of that disconnect.

dkgjdf. Most flattering thing I've heard in days, holy shit. XD The Kids Aren't Alright worked for me. Really, really, really worked. There are elements I disagree with, but Bono! And the quote about Gates being software and Tony being hardware! And oh my God, above all, bringing in the external opinions and the stuff about the unofficial Stark biographer and the expert opinions. GENIUS. GENIUS. I read the fic exactly once the day it came out, and yet, almost three full weeks later, I still have chunks of it rattling in my head.

. . . but you didn't actually ask to hear about my Doomfic fangirling, did you? XD

I think, though, that a lot of the feedback can be traced to the fact that it was pretty much the first (and as far as I know, only) fic to fill a REALLY OBVIOUS GAP just made for fanfiction. People always love that more than long, synthetic rambles from inside some pasty-ass sitting in front of the computer typing whatever comes into her head, y'know?

So yeah, lots of feedback even if it'd only been mediocre. And then [livejournal.com profile] samdonne just kind of hit the ball into motherfucking orbit. I don't know if (s)he even did any advertising for not. I doubt she had to -- the day it came out, 75% of the IM fandom posts on my f-list recc'd it. XD
