I love this Jim, doing his own math, keeping an eye out for Tony even when he doesn't ask for it. And this:

Tony is, in fact, is so quiet and good at slipping out of the room that Jim doesn't notice he's gone until the professor looks over his shoulder

Oh, that glimpse is a little chilling, Tony just as good at going unnoticed as he is later the center of attention.
