That fic is totally inevitable. So far I've got the increased startle reflex, mood swings, and one track mind/obsession thing going, but I'm sure there's room for more.
One change from the novelization, taking out the trip to Dubai (besides that scam with the girls totally being terrible to Pepper), works for me better in the movie because jumping straight from the benefit to him freaking out in the workshop to flying straight to Afghanistan is that it takes out the calculation of the novelization version.
In other words, he doesn't think at all in the movie version. He just acts. And that, to me, starts getting into the PTSD aspects. Because it's practically a compulsion by that point in the film - it's not just a moral change of heart - Tony doesn't have a choice. He can't not go to Gulmira once he hears about it, because it's all happening again for him, and this time he has a SUPER DUPER ROBOT SUIT.
